There was no indication in anything I read or discussed that Sprint was in the picture in any way. Had I even heard the name Sprint mentioned I would not have completed the transaction. That's correct, I don't like Sprint.
This is very strange. I received the letter at an address that almost nobody has. Where did Sprint get my name and address?
Also included was a Confirmation letter that I was now a Sprint customer. I was not pleased.
I called 700-555-4141 to determine my Long Distance Carrier.
I got a recording "Call cannot be completed."
It turns out that Hawaiian Telecom blocks all 700 and 900 calls to
protect us. I knew about 900 numbers, but why 700 numbers?
Almost all 700 numbers are like the costly 900 numbers.
Only 700-555-4141 is toll free. (Duh! What government morons did this?)
I was assured that Hawaiian Telecom was indeed mylong distance carrier. I asked about Sprint and they said there was no connection with Sprint.
13:44:26 -- I spoke to "Voraya" who claimed to be located in Florida.
She, for security reasons asked me my name, local phone number, etc.
I asked why I received a Sprint FonCard and she said that
I activated long distance service on Feb 28th.
I asked to speak to a manager immediately. There is no point in
wasting time with someone who is just reading a script.
I said "there is going to be a regulatory complaint on this subject."
I also said "I am on the war path."
13:51:23 Tina Price USG2837 picked up the call.
She does not have a direct phone number. She is not a manager.
I ask again for a manager. Now it will get more interesting...
13:53:20 Sharon Crowley picks up. She is a manager.
I briefly explain my concerns again:
"You mailed an unsolicited phone card."
"Where did I sign up for this?"
Ms Crowley replied that some 2008 telecom code allowed Sprint to
get notified of my request for long distance service on Feb 28th.
I need a copy of that documentation. She said it is a tape that comes in from local exchange carriers.
J: I need something in writing.
C: I don't have access to that information.
J: Who does?
C: I need to research it.
J: Here's my email address: Sxxxxxxxxx@CustomerFromHell.com
When will I hear from you?
C: By Tuesday, March 17th, close of business 5:30 PM Central Time.
J: You sent out an unsolicited phone card that could be abused by anyone.
I did not authorize it.
I need the information that you received from Hawiian Telecom.
C: Our procedure is to send out phone cards when we receive
the tape from the LEC.
J: Your business process is going to have to change.
Take a look at CustomerFromHell.com when you get some time. 14:01:23
I waited a reasonable amount of time, but no reply from Sprint.
So, I'm doing what said I'd do -- posting this on the web.
